The mission of our music ministry is to lead the Mount Calvary community in worship services that inspire the heart and connect us with one another as the body of Christ. To support this, vocal choirs, hand bell choirs, instrumental ensembles and soloists prepare the finest music in a variety of musical styles and expressions.
Whether you are an experienced musician, or someone who simply has a passion for music, we have a place for you. Mount Calvary invites you to use your talents in a special and meaningful way through the following choirs and ensembles:
Rehearsal Wednesdays at 7:00pm, September - May
Chancel Choir frequently leads worship at Sunday services during the program year, and also performs at special events such as Lessons & Carols, Festival Sundays, The Seven Last Words of Christ. The choir sings from a broad repertoire, from standard choral and classical to gospel, global and popular music. Director: Mark Abelsen
Mount Calvary Bells
Rehearsal Mondays at 7:00pm, September - May
Our 5-octave handbell choir leads worship once a month during the program year, and also performs at special events such as Lessons & Carols and Handbell Musicians of America festivals. This group rings a range of music varying in difficulty. Experienced ringers will enjoy a challenge, while beginners will find a good environment for learning. Director: Mark Abelsen
This ensemble of singers and instrumentalists leads Saturday evening worships and at least one Sunday worship per quarter. The band’s repertoire includes gospel, global, jazz, soul, rock and alternative, and is primarily led by piano, bass, drums and guitar. Director: Mark Abelsen
The Chamber Singers lead a few Sunday worships throughout the program year. This ensemble plays music that suits a smaller group of singers, which usually includes members of the Chancel Choir, but is open to anyone interested. Director: Karen Hansen, .
Rehearsals Mondays, 6:30-7:30pm
JuBELLee is our beginning bell group for teens and adults who’d like to learn the handbell. This group allows beginners to try handbell and work their way up to Mount Calvary Bells. Previous music experience is preferred. Director: Cassandra McNally
Music on the Mount
Mount Calvary's concert series features guest artists such as Cantus, Minnesota Boychoir, Barbary Coast Dixieland Band, Rachel Kurtz and Minnetonka Choral Society.
