Welcome

We hope that by navigating our website, you will begin to understand some of the things that make Mount Calvary a unique community of faith. As you explore some of the stories, opportunities and ideas on these pages, we encourage you to consider how you might participate alongside us. If you have questions about something you see or read, please email us (or better yet, come visit us) and see if we can help.

Mount Calvary is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. We are unabashedly

Evangelical: believing the love of Jesus Christ is good news for all God's children, proclaiming clearly His gospel of grace, and inviting all to "Come and see" what Jesus is doing through us and in the world.

Lutheran: a family of congregations within the Christian community who believe the Church should always be reforming around the Gospel and in the power of God's Spirit. We are heirs of the reformer Martin Luther, who emphasized the centrality of Scripture and Jesus with the words "grace alone, faith alone, scripture alone."

Church: people gathered who love God and who love neighbor in the Spirit of Jesus. We believe and live in the truth that Jesus made the people of God inclusive, not exclusive; servants, not superior; humble, not arrogant; motivated by the love of our Creator, not fear.

America: located in a land we love, serving an even greater kingdom. A people with a proud and diverse heritage, committed to a faithful pursuit of founding principles like freedom and justice for all throughout God's world and not narrowed by arbitrary borders.

Mount Calvary is a place where worship draws upon many musical traditions and styles. Our preaching is Gospel centered, clearly proclaiming the extravagant and unmerited love of God for all through Jesus and calling everyone to serve God and neighbor using one's own unique gifts wherever we work, live and play. Our programs and classes, worship and activities are open to any and all, members and guests. Our outreach in the community and throughout the world has blessed us, inspired us, and moved us to dream grand dreams of what Jesus would have us do in the world.

Since the heart-rending and horrific events of September 11, 2001, we have committed ourselves to be a congregation intent on reforming public conversations. Through a commitment to something we call "Open Eyes-Open Hearts," we resolve to learn from those who may differ from us, to listen as much as we speak, to talk with rather than about people, to seek truth, peace and understanding alongside all God's peoples.

But, in the end, these are just words. Come worship, visit, study, laugh, seek, find, knock, serve and play alongside us. See if the vision Jesus has placed in our hearts lines up with the one He is stirring in you. Come and let us learn what God is doing in your life and listen alongside us for the voice of God calling us to abundant life. In the words of one of our hymns, "All are welcome in this place."
