Grades 1-5

Sunday School 2010-11

Model

Sunday School is offered for children ages 3 through 5th grade at each worship service from September through May. Worship services are Saturday at 5:00pm or Sunday at 8:15, 9:30 or 11:00am. Children begin in worship with their families each week and then go to their classroom after the Bible story is told in worship. Children and parents will go to Sunday School together on  Milestone days to experience and celebrate their child's Milestone.

Children will have a variety of experiences including Classroom, Children's Church and rotating through Discovery Centers. Discovery Center and Children's Church Sundays are designed to help the children experience the story and worship in ways that are meaningful to them in a large group setting. Children in Grades 1-5 also have Worship Leadership opportunities throughout the year to usher, greet or read in worhip. Our 5th grade class will have various options to lead younger children during the year.

Our congregation will be using Spark Sunday School. Spark is designed to fit all the different ways kids learn and empowers kids to interact and engage with the Bible. All children explore the same Bible story each week, yet each age level focuses on the story in an age appropriate way. Each child registered for Sunday School will receive a Spark Bible.

Volunteer Opportunities

There are a variety of ways to volunteer for Sunday School, both in and out of the classroom with varying degrees of time commitment. We have needs for teachers, substitutes, Discovery Center Leaders, music leaders, puppeteers and lots of opportunities for behind-the-scenes help. Please prayerfully consider offering your gift(s) and time to volunteer in at least one way this program year. Parent volunteer opportunities are on the registration form.

Fabulous 5th Grade

We want to prepare our 5th graders for Confirmation by introducing them to one another through fun events. You can sign up to come to one, a few, or every event. This is a great opportunity for both parents and kids to get acquainted before the Confirmation experience begins. If you have a 5th grader, you will receive information regarding this program in the fall.

Family Ministry

Building Bridges
The practicing of faith at church that we can intentionally live it at home and use it in our everyday lives.

Building Bridges is back for its 5th year this fall. We are delighted to again be announcing some changes designed to create energy around this fabulous learning and play time and encourage more participation for families.

Building Bridges is a Mount Calvary "hands on" ministry developed to equip families to practice faith together-building bridges between church and home so that what is practiced at church can begin to be part of our everyday lives. Our program is based on the belief that families will not do at home what they have not first practiced in church. The Building Bridges Ministry provides an arena for practice. Once every month families gather and set up their family altar. They establish a sacred space where they PRACTICE prayer, ritual, blessings, intentional conversation, meals, fun and faith. I facilitate the experience, parents do the work! Families leave Building Bridges with HomeTime suggestions and directions to use all that has been practiced that evening.
This year the dates and times for Building Bridges will vary, depending on the church seasons. We are going to include more family-friendly times and dates, coupled with meals and projects that can be used in the home during many of our church seasons. We will continue to plan for families with children in the 3 years to 5th grade range. Nursery will be available for those needing child care for younger children.
Moms, dads, grandmas, grandpas, please remember how vitally important it is to be active and involved in the faith life of your child. You are the models and nurturers of faith. Their relationship with God is about God, but also about you. Building Bridges is uniquely designed to give you experience in being and doing that modeling and nurturing. If you have any questions, please call Andrea Fieldhouse at 952-474-8893, ext. 125 or email andrea.fieldhouse@mountcalvary.org.

Milestone Ministry
Tending the Baptismal Journey

Milestones are significant cultural, developmental and spiritual markers we all experience throughout our lifetimes. At Mount Calvary, the promises we make at baptism point to the spiritual milestones in our children's lives. We are committed to remembering, celebrating and upholding the baptismal promises, and Milestone Ministry is the avenue we utilize. Milestone Ministry Celebrations are days for parent and child. On these special days parent and child attend Saturday and Sunday school together to talk and learn about faith and God. The experience is designed especially for the age of the child attending and includes prayer, art, reading, games, and sharing. For pre-school and elementary children, there are two Milestone opportunities per year. For Middle School and High School students, the Milestone opportunities will vary in time and place. If you have any questions contact Andrea Fieldhouse at 952-474-8893, ext. 125, or email andrea.fieldhouse@mountcalvary.org.
