Love Is…written by local composer Tesfa Wondemagegnehu (choir director, Westminster Presbyterian, Minneapolis), combines familiar scripture from 1 Corinthians with Lin Manuel-Miranda’s 2016 Tony Award acceptance speech for Best Musical (Hamilton). Written for his wife, but also as tribute to the victims of the hateful Orlando nightclub shooting (June 2016), Miranda passionately proclaims –“Love is, love is love is love.” Inspired by these words and a great need to “spread the love,” Tesfa challenges choirs who sing his piece Love Is… to find a local justice organization to support rather than pay him royalties for the music.
The Chancel Choir has chosen the organization “The Link” which works with youth and families to overcome the impacts of poverty, social injustice and sex trafficking. We invite you to join us in this challenge and support the important work “The Link” is doing to stop sex trafficking right here in Minneapolis, especially as we prepare to host the upcoming Super Bowl on February 4th. Information is available at a table in the atrium along with ways for you to contribute. We will be accepting donations the next three Sundays – January 28, February 4 & 11.
Any amount makes a difference and we thank you for joining us in our efforts to “spread the love” and help protect the youth in our community!
